Warhammer Dwarves, and Chaos Dwarves in particular, are a pretty juicy challenge for any conversion into LEGO MOCs. And real fun...
This pair of devastating war machines are a sample of the unique taste of the old WH miniatures, when (I presume) molds were still hand-made and imagination, lore, and handcraft had to to do instead of the highly defined details we (luckily) now find in nowadays sets.
ADDITIONAL BACKGROUND |
My MOC comes with both, but for some reason I cannot get over certain details of the whirlwind. Hope to fix it soon.
In the meantime, here come some lore for the lovely tenderiser:
A Tenderiser is a Chaos Dwarf War Machine first created by the Artificer Thymbrin Snakebeard. [1a]
A varient of the Whirlwind also created by Thymbrin, its axle is linked to three vast hammers which batter and crush enemies as its pushed forward by the Boar Centaur. [1a][2a] [SOURCE}
Here comes my MOC, which also include a complete boar-centaur.
The centaur body comes on purpose from an alternate brand, so to have it in black, with decorations, and actually bigger than the official LEGO's. Here it helps preserving the proportions carrierVSmachine at best. Besides, out of sheer luck, the original model had some dagger tied up horizontally on the side, as well :).
My MOC sacrifices the trio mace, hammer, and hand merely for esthetics as the other option here, could perfectly fit that need. Yet, I wanted something a bit more homogeneous and appropriate in terms of colours. Besides this allows placing the three arms in a non-parallel position to accommodate the three heads.
Interesting enough, it does have a mechanism that allows the three arms to activate when wheels are sliding on a floor with just a little friction.
Missing details: I would like to find a LEGO bit with some monstrous face (Ninjago?) to represent the face/front shield (in green and red in the original picture).
UPDATE 04.09.24
I made it! Also the whirlwind and a second boar-centaur are done, after sitting half-finished for a tad too long in my drawer. Contrary to the tenderiser this MOC does not include a working mechanism for the blades rotation in favour of a leaner design, that felt truer to the original model.
By comparing the two MOCs, one can see the structure of the Tenderiser is much heftier. This was the only solution to ensure the cogs and wheels were actually working. The WhirlWind favours esthetics instead of mechanics and probably shows a result closer to the original WH model. Boar-Centaurs are both nice, but again differ considerably in size, the black one much bigger.
Building challenges described above (mostly the monster-shaped shield) remain unchanged. Advice is welcome.
